The WSU Master Gardener Program has wonderful, dedicated, certified WSU Master Gardener volunteers who maintain our gardens at Dirt Works in Yauger Park, Olympia Farmers Market, Closed Loop Park at the Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center, and a Pollinator Garden at the Fairgrounds.
At all our locations, WSU Master Gardeners demonstrate sustainable gardening and best practices for the benefit of the community. Master Recycler/Composters demonstrate best composting practices at various locations. As critical as expertise and sweat equity are, they don’t pay the bills.
Annual costs of operating gardens include water, plants and seeds, soil, mulch, tools and supplies. Ongoing maintenance of infrastructure requires assistance from experts like arborists and irrigation specialists. In addition, special projects give each garden leadership team opportunities to identify needed infrastructure improvements.
